Virtual Pumpkin Carving

OAP Facebook

A "facebook for the silver surfers" has been setup by Saga Group.

The Saga Zone site was developed by the Saga Group, based in Folkestone, Kent, which specialises in products and services for the over-50s.

Some 13,000 people signed up to the site, which includes forums on subjects from gardening tips to relationship advice, in a trial four months ago.

But surely people over 50 don't want to just communicate with other OAP's .. I reckon a better way forward would be a application for OAP's for facebook or other social networking sites.

Hand Job

Obviously these are amazing.. but the viral forwarded email I got sent with these on, doesn't have any clue to the identity of the artist.. what a shame.

Mixtape

Genius!!

I genuinely loved making mixtapes.. And have kinda lamentated the way that playlists have made mixtapes a bit redundant, although it's great making bizarre playlists so easily. I have a playlist that contains weapons in the song or artist titles 'cos I was a big fan of Nathan Barley... not sure it's a great success...

ANYWAY..

This mixtape external storage is nice, not earth shattering but nice.

Stephen Fry - Total Star

I read a few weeks ago on the guardian site Stephen Fry's first blog posting about smartphones. He's now starting a weekly technology article. I clicked my link thinking he might muse amusingly about generic technology .. I was a bit surprised thought.. he reckons he bought the second apple in Europe and runs ten at the moment, but he's not just a apple nut ..
I run Windows XP and Vista. Linux, too, in different distributions, including Mark Shuttleworth's increasingly popular Ubuntu, although I also take Red Hat's Fedora and Yellow Dog out for a run from time to time.
I like what he has to say about style vs. substance. Creative Review yesterday was saying how rubbish looking the new mac OS looks. All corporate shadows and reflections. It's odd isn't it that you basically can't style a mac - the "cool, fashionable OS' whereas boring grey windows has bunches of skins and shells you can use to style it. Guess that lots of designers aren't geeky enough to be able to muck about with their OS and so want a "good looking' starting point. The external beautiful look is a different beast to the inner workings.

Back to Fry though..
Sick building syndrome exists, and so does sick hand-held device syndrome. Fiddly buttons, blocky icons, sickeningly stupid nested menus - these are the enemy.
The Guardian - Class. Fry - God.

Asian Proverb

You learn by looking and listening as opposed to talking. That's why you have two ears and two eyes and only one mouth.

Russia's kissing cops

Kissing Policemen (An Epoch of Clemency) by Blue Noses
Political provocation? ... Kissing Policemen (An Epoch of Clemency) by Blue Noses

Banned russian kissing cops.

Mr Sokolov described the photo as political provocation and said he was pulling it, together with 16 other works, from a show at Paris's Maison Rouge exhibition hall.

"If this exhibition appears [in Paris] it will bring shame on Russia. In this case, all of us will bear full responsibility," the minister said. "It is inadmissible...to take all this pornography, kissing policemen and erotic pictures to Paris."
